Ucamco NV and Schmid Technology GmbH announce a joint project in digital imaging technology for the PCB market.

Under the terms of their co-operation agreement, Ucamco will provide the front-end drive software for the Schmid DoD 800 and DoD Pro Series inkjet printers. Schmid inkjet printers offer PCB fabricators the latest innovations in inkjet technology. Ucamco announce the release of their new Geometric Correction Sytem for their laser photo plotters. A software solution which allows the customer to produce distortion free panels.

Today’s PCB design roadmap calls for higher densities and finer features. As registration tolerances become tighter, non-linear process distortions become increasingly critical. Existing tools which compensate only for linear distortions are no longer sufficient.

Ucamco report that their new online PCB CAM productivity service is increasing front-end engineering throughput up to 30%.

The new service is based around advanced remote-access software.  This gives Ucamco’s software support engineers in Ghent, Belgium, secure access to a customer’s workstation anywhere in the world.  The Ucamco engineer observes and records the complete data preparation process for 2 – 3 jobs.  Working offline, he can then prepare a free report, based on his knowledge of UCAM software and industry best practice, recommending changes to the customer’s process and itemizing the time savings which can be gained.  If the customer agrees, the Ucamco engineer will prepare offline new set-ups, new software modules, targeted scripts, and/or a customer-specific training program.  At a time convenient to the customer he will use the remote-access software to download the new features and provide the training fully online.

Ucamco have launched a series of webinars to help PCB CAM engineers benefit faster from new functionality.  Filip Vermeire, Head of Customer Software Care at Ucamco, described the feedback from the first session as excellent.  “Participants told us that they had achieved immediate productivity gains from following the webinar”.

SmartPlate software takes the guesswork out of PCB plating

PCB front-end engineering specialists Ucamco have teamed up with electroplating simulation & optimisation experts Elsyca to develop the CAM-independent SmartPlate program which predicts plating layer thicknesses across a PCB and in the plated drill holes to an accuracy better than 85%.  Better controlled plating improves the electronic performance and long-term reliability of the PCB, as well as cutting production and environmental costs.

Rik Vandekerckhove has more than 20 years experience in the PCB industry. He worked for a major European PCB fabricator before joining Barco ETS as a product support and development engineer.  For the last 5 years he has been based in China as Product Development and Support Manager, working closely with local manufacturers to implement successful front-end engineering and imaging solutions. He will continue to reside primarily in China.

Mania Belgium NV's photoplotter and software division, recently bought from the administrators of Mania Technologie AG by ESO, released UCAM version v8.2.1. in June this year. Despite the upheavals within the Mania Group, product development at Mania Belgium has continued without interruption.

Ucamco and Eastek announced today that the two companies have signed an agreement under which Eastek will become distributors in Taiwan for Ucamco PCB photoplotter products as well as their CAM software.

Eastek already was a distributor for Ucamco’s software products.  Now Eastek will add Ucamco’s SilverWriter and calibr8tor series of laser photoplotters to the full UCAM family of front-end software, the integr8tor PCB sales solution and the recently introduced SmartPlate software for reliable plating.

Mania Belgium takes the new name Ucamco.  The new name is marked by a new website www.ucamco.com and a new corporate identity.

Ucamco, based in Gent, Belgium, has been developing advanced PCB laser-photoplotting technologies and productivity-enhancing CAM software uninterruptedly since 1983.  In 1998 it cemented its commitment to the US market when it acquired the PCB division of Gerber Scientific. In 2002 it was taken over by Mania Technologie AG, and it operated under the name Mania Belgium instead of Barco ETS.  In August 2008 the Gent operation was one of the financially sound divisions of Mania Technologie AG bought from the administrators by the ESO Capital Group.
